Richard Ramsden

Professor Richard Ramsden

Richard Ramsden graduated in medicine at St Andrews University in Scotland a long time ago. His ENT training was in London at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital and the London Hospital where he was greatly influenced by Andrew Morrison and by his co trainees David Moffat and Bill Gibson. He was appointed as Consultant Otolaryngologist at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 1977and was awarded a personal chair in 1995. He has devoted his professional life to Otology, Neuro-otology / Skull Base Surgery and Implant Surgery. He belongs to the 1000/1000 club (1000 acoustic neuromas and 1000 cochlear implant operations performed) and has published regularly in both these fields. He developed a particular interest in NF2 and in ABI surgery. He retired from the NHS in 2008 but continues to work for them when the need arises and when the NHS can afford to pay him. He is still involved in a large number of research studies. He is the immediate past president of ENT UK and is the Master of the British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology to be held in Glasgow in 2012.

Dr Saeed

Professor Shakeel Saeed

Dr Saeed was appointed Professor of Otology/Neuro-otology UCL Ear Institute; Consultant ENT and Skullbase Surgeon for The Royal National Throat, Nose & Ear Hospital and Royal Free Hospital, London in September 2008. Special interests include Neurotology, balance disorders, skull base surgery and cochlear implantation. Dr Saeed qualified from Guy's and King's College Hospitals, London. His registrar training in ENT surgery took place at The Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London.
He was an Otology Research Fellow in San Francisco, studying cochlear nerve growth factor receptors and a Fellow in Neurotology and Skull base surgery at the Manchester Royal Infirmary. At the Royal College of Surgeons of England research he was a Fellow studying the molecular genetics of otosclerosis at the University of Manchester. In 2002 Dr Saeed received a gold medal for his doctorate thesis at the University of Manchester. Appointed Consultant Otolaryngologist and Skullbase Surgeon, Manchester Royal Infirmary and Hope Hospital, January 1999. Publications and presentations in skullbase, cochlear implantation, facial nerve rehabilitation, Meniere's disease, neurotology and otosclerosis.

Robert Vincent

Doctor Robert Vincent

Doctor Vincent is an Otorhinolaryngologist Surgeon, sub-specialising in Otology. He currently holds a position as otologist Surgeon at Causse Ear Clinic in Béziers, France where he has worked since 1991. Doctor Vincent is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a member of the Editorial Board of the Otology & Neurotology Journal.

 Didier Portmann

Doctor Didier Portmann

Didier Portmann is an Otorhinolaringologist - continuing a century-long tradition in his family. His great grandfather was Professor Emile Moure, a founder of the discipline in 1880. He also founded a journal, 'La Revue de laryngologie Otologie Rhinologie' (European Review of ENT) which is still being published (indexed in Medline and available online at www.revue-laryngologie.com).

At that time, Professor Moure began to teach and organise meetings in ORL. His son-in-law (and Didier Portmann's grandfather), Professor Georges Portmann, described the surgery for endolymphatic sac decompression for Menière's disease in 1926. Didier Portmann's father, Professor Michel Portmann, is known for his interest in Otology and Otoneurology. Didier Portmann has followed in the footsteps of his elders with the same passion for teaching.

Since 1993, Dr. Didier Portmann has been working in private practice with special focus on Otology and Neurotology.

Since 2004, he has been General Secretary of the Georges Portmann Institute (www.institut-portmann.org) which is dedicated to the teaching of the ENT specialty organising different courses and workshops on all subjects related to otolaryngology. The most well known of these is the “English course”, a course on micro surgery in otology and otoneurology, which is usually held during the first week of July.

Toshiaki Yagi

Professor Toshiaki Yagi

Professor Toshiaki Yagi is currently the President of the Chiba Kashiwa Rehabilitation College in Japan. Prior to this he spent 8 years working as the Professor and Chairman of ORL Nippon Medical School and still ho;ds the position of Professor Emeritus at the school. Doctor Yagi is a member of the Collegium Oto-rhino-laryngologicum Amicitae Sacrumand the Barany Society. In 2004 he received the Hallpike-Nylen Medal and the Barany Gold Medal in 2006.

 Robert Briggs

Associate Professor Robert Briggs

Robert Briggs is an Otolaryngologist with a clinical practice and research specializing in Otology and Neurotology . His current appointments are Clinical Associate Professor in the University of Melbourne Department of Otolaryngology, Head of Otology and Medical Director of the Cochlear Implant Clinic at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, as well as Senior Fellow in the Department of Surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He has a large experience with acoustic neuroma surgery and with cochlear implantation.

Gabor Halmagyi

Professor Gabor Halmagyi

Gabor Halmagyi is currently a Clinical Professor at the University of Sydney and Visiting Neurologist at St Vincent's Private Hospital, Sydney. Prior to this Dr Halmagyi spent 13 years lecturing at the University of Sydney after moving from the UK. His time in the UK was spent focussing on neurology and included work at the both the National Hospital in London and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He has authored over 170 publications and is a member of neurological societies throughout the world.

 Mohan Kameswaran

Professor Mohan Kameswaran
Professor Mohan Kameswaran is Managing Director and Senior Consultant of Otolaryngology at Madras ENT Research Foundation, Chennai, India. He has pioneered cochlear implantation & brain stem implantation in India and has performed over 850 cochlear implants. He is recipient of Padmashri Award, one of the highest civilian awards in India.

 Chong Sun Kim

Professor Chong Sun Kim

Prof. Chong Sun Kim is working at the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital in Korea.

He was the President of the Politzer Society meeting in Seoul, Korea in 2005, and the President of the CORLAS meeting in Seoul in 2007. He is now Vice-President of the IFOS, and he will host the 20th IFOS World Congress in Seoul, Korea as a President in 2013.

 Stephen O'Leary

Professor Stephen O'Leary
Stephen O’Leary holds the Chair of Otolaryngology at The University of Melbourne. He obtained his PhD at The University of Melbourne under the mentorship of Professor Graeme Clark in 1994, and completed surgical training in Ear Nose and Throat- Head and Neck Surgery in 1998. Professor O’Leary has undertaken post-doctoral research at Oxford University, UK and the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands. He has worked as both a surgeon and a medical researcher at The University of Melbourne and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, since 1999, and holds an honorary appointment with the Bionic Ear Institute. He currently serves the Hospital as Chairman of the Senior Medical Staff.

Professor O’Leary is recognized internationally for his clinical and research activities in ear disease, hearing and balance, and particularly for contributions to cochlear implantation, and the protection and regeneration of the inner ear regeneration. Professor O’Leary has led the development of a virtual reality simulator to train ear surgeons in collaboration with CSIRO, and this system has recently been licensed for commercial development to an Australian company, Medic Vision. He was elected to the Collegium Otorhinolaryngologicum Amitciae Sacrum in 2006 in recognition of his contributions to Otolaryngology.

 Angel Ramos

Professor Angel Ramos
Angel Ramos is currently the Chairman of the Otolaryngology Head and Neck Department at the University Hospital of Gran Canaria. He is also the Titular Professor of Otolaryngology and Professor of Audiolgy and Speech Disorders at Las Palmas University. Professor Ramos has published almost 200 books, papers and editorials.

 Thi Ngoc Dung

Professor Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung
Prof Dung is the Director of ENT Hospital , Ho Chi Minh City and Chairman of ENT Department of Medical University, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She is the currently President of the Vietnamese ORL Society.

She obtained her medical degree and completed her ENT residency program from the Medical University, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In 2004, she obtained her PhD degree in ENT from the Medical University, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and was given her Assistant Professorship in 2009. She has been very active in organizing international meetings in Vietnam and successfully presided over the ASEAN ORL Meeting 2009 and Asian Research Symposium in Rhinology (ARSR) 2010.

 Prasanduk Suchitra

Professor Suchitra Prasansuk
Professor Suchitra Prasansuk is an Emeritus Professor in Oto-rhino-laryngology, sub-specialising in hearing, speech, balance and tinnitus. She has trained and worked throughout the world including Vienna, London, Los Angeles, Copenhagen and Toronto. In 2009 she was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. Professor Prasansuk has won a plethora of awards throughout her professional career. She currently works at Bangkok Hospital, specialising in Oto-rhino-laryngology.

 Michael Strupp

Professor Michael Strupp

Michael Strupp is Professor of Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of Munich and the Deputy Speaker of the Integrated Center for Research and Treatment of Vertigo. He is Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers in Neuro-otology and Review Editor of the Journal of Neurology. He is the author of more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and four books on vertigo, dizziness and ocular motor disorders.
